Preprints

Authors who have submitted or plan to submit their articles to the Indonesian Institute of Science and Technology Research (IISTR) may post their preprints in the following locations:

IISTR does not consider this to be a form of prior publication. However, the editorial office must be notified prior to the submission (e.g., through the cover letter/letter to the editor). On the preprint's side, the following statement must be included on the initial screen:

"This work has been submitted to the IISTR for possible publication. The article may be published in IISTR journal without notice, after which this version may no longer be accessible."

Upon acceptance of the article by IISTR, the author must replace the posted preprint article with either (1) the full citation to the IISTR work with the DOI, or (2) the accepted version of the article with the DOI and appropriate citation to the corresponding IISTR journal. No other changes may be made to the accepted article.

Author-submitted Articles

Authors may share or post their author-submitted article in the following ways:

Upon acceptance, the previously posted article must be replaced with either (1) the complete citation to the IISTR work with the DOI, or (2) the accepted version of the article with the DOI and appropriate citation to the corresponding IISTR journal. No other changes may be made to the accepted article.

Accepted and Published Articles

Unless otherwise noted, all articles in IISTR journals are published with a CC-BY-SA license. This license allows reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use. If reusers remix, adapt, or build upon the material, reusers must license the modified material under identical terms.

Under the premise of legal publishing, the corresponding author is required to grant a publishing license to IISTR on behalf of all authors (see the copyright section below). Note that IISTR is a Crossref member, and all IISTR journals comply with The Initiative for Open Citations (I4OC) for open citations.

Once the submitted paper is accepted for publication, authors will be invited to fill in an electronic statement letter form. If the form hasn't been received along with the final revised manuscript, the publication of the manuscript may be postponed.

Manuscripts submitted for publication must be original, previously unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. If previously published materials written by others have to be used, the copyright owner's permission must be obtained prior to submission. The author takes responsibility for checking whether the material submitted is subject to copyright or ownership rights. To avoid delay in publication, it would be better for authors to start obtaining all the permissions as early as possible. If in any doubt about the copyright, the authors are encouraged to apply for permission. IISTR Publications cannot publish material from other publications without permission. If any unpermitted material used in the article is found, the article will be rejected or removed from our website, even if it has already been published.

Appeals

If authors want to appeal a decision, they are required to contact us via email at editor@journal.iistr.org and explain in detail the reasons for any complaints or the appeal. Appeals will only be considered when a reviewer or editor is thought to have a significant error or bias or when the objectivity is compromised by a documented competing interest. While under appeal, the manuscript remains under formal consideration and hence should not be submitted for consideration elsewhere. Usually, the processing of appeals will take no more than 15 work days. IISTR has the right to make a final decision, and second appeals will not be considered. After the processing of appeals is completed, the manuscript can be submitted to other publishers. Appeals regarding any published materials will only be accepted within 12 months from the first publication date.

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

By submitting a manuscript to IISTR, as an author, you agree to comply with the following Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement. This statement is based on COPE's Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Duties / Responsibilities of Authors

  1. All manuscripts must be the original work of authors and not plagiarism. A zero-tolerance approach will be taken to plagiarized manuscripts.
  2. Authorship of a manuscript should be limited to authors who have made significant contributions. For further information, refer to ICMJE Authorship Criteria and Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT).
  3. Authors must properly and accurately acknowledge the work of others.
  4. Authors should disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript and acknowledge individuals or organizations that have provided financial support for research.
  5. Authors may be asked to provide the raw data in connection with manuscripts for editorial review and should prepare to provide public access to such data if possible.
  6. All manuscripts must be previously unpublished and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Duties / Responsibilities of Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board Member(s)

  1. The Editor-in-Chief or the assigned editorial board member(s), from time to time, are responsible for making objective decisions on the scope, size, and content quality of the manuscripts submitted to the journal within a reasonable timeframe.
  2. The Editor-in-Chief or the assigned editorial board member(s) shall refuse to handle the assigned manuscript if they believe they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
  3. The journal utilizes a single/double-blind peer review process (per the authors' request and/or editor's decision). The Editor-in-Chief and members of the Editorial Board ensure the integrity of the publication review process by not revealing either the identity of the authors of manuscripts to the reviewers (in the case of double-blind peer review) or the identity of reviewers to the authors.
  4. The members of the Editorial Board receive all manuscripts for review in confidence and do not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, other external referees sought from time to time, and the publisher.
  5. Any of the editorial board members must not use materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript (published or unpublished) for their own research without the author's written authorization.
  6. Editors shall conduct a proper and fair investigation into ethical complaints.

Duties / Responsibilities of Reviewers

  1. Reviewers keep all information regarding papers confidential and treat them as privileged information.
  2. Reviewers conduct their business of review objectively, with no personal criticism of the author.
  3. Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments that will constructively guide the editorial decision by the Editor-in-Chief or his or her nominee.
  4. Reviewers should complete their reviews within the journal's stipulated timeframe.
  5. Reviewers should not review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
  6. Reviewers should refuse to review manuscripts in which they believe they do not have enough credentials/knowledge regarding the topic of the paper (or, in the case that the paper's topic is out of their scope/expertise).

Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted Technology

At submission, the journal should require authors to disclose whether they used artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted technologies (such as Large Language Models (LLMs), chatbots, or image creators) in the production of submitted work. Authors who use such technology should describe, in both the cover letter and the submitted work, how they used it. Chatbots (such as ChatGPT) should not be listed as authors because they cannot be responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the work, and these responsibilities are required for authorship. Therefore, humans are responsible for any submitted material that included the use of AI-assisted technologies. Authors should carefully review and edit the result because AI can generate authoritative-sounding output that can be incorrect, incomplete, or biased. Authors should not list AI and AI-assisted technologies as an author or co-author, nor cite AI as an author. Authors should be able to assert that there is no plagiarism in their paper, including in text and images produced by the AI. Humans must ensure there is appropriate attribution of all quoted material, including full citations.

In addition, IISTR agrees to publish the manuscript and has the right:

(1) To publish, reproduce, distribute, display, and store the manuscript;

(2) To translate the manuscript into other languages;

(5) To include electronic links from the manuscript to third-party material;

(6) To license any third party to do any or all of the above (with the authors' consent);

(7) To authorize IISTR to take legal proceedings in the copyright owner's name and on the author(s)' behalf if the author(s)' believe that a third party is infringing or is likely to infringe copyright in the manuscript.

Rights for Authors

Authors are allowed to use their own articles for both commercial and non-commercial purposes without seeking permission from IISTR. Authors retain copyright and full publishing rights without restrictions, including:

(1) Post a PDF of their article;

(2) Make copies of their article for both personal and commercial use. This includes the contributor's own teaching purposes;

(3) Republish part or all of the article in a book or other publication edited by the author, provided that no self-plagiarism is made. Please note that completely reuse work that the authors have already published without making appropriate changes is considered as self-plagiarism;
